December 15th 2006 is the day we have awaited for what seems a long time. Friday was the one-year anniversary of when Katie King spoke to the YMCA board of directors about working toward the selling of camp to an organization that would be dedicated to revitalizing and continuing the rich history of Montvale. On Friday, the YMCA voted to sell the camp to the Harmony Property Group who will put safeguards on the property so that it can never be developed. Harmony is also committed to working with the Friends of Camp Montvale to return Montvale to service as a residential camp and recreation center.

Harmony has secured the land! Now they will allow us to plan the next large task, returning camp to the service of children and community! With that being said, our task is multifold. First, we need to raise funds for supporting the costs associated with reopening. Second, we will have to reconnect with past campers of Montvale along with new campers who can learn from the Montvale experience. Third, we must also reconnect with the camp's alumni. The website has been an important step in this direction. Please keep tabs on upcoming opportunities and needs through the website. This will be updated regularly so please check back frequently. Most updates will come through the camp's website and not the message board so make sure you bookmark www.savecampmontvale.org .

On Tuesday December 19th, Harmony closed and took possession of the property. I hope this news helps to bring you an excitement in joining us to make Montvale even better than before with a strong community base of support. Please consider becoming a part of the Montvale family today. It will take all of us to return Montvale as a community treasure in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains.
