Food & Drink > Mmmmmm... Hog Jowls

We had our usual New Year's Day dinner. Black-eyed peas, fried hog jowls, mustard greens, cornbread, fried potatoes, cole slaw, and pumpkin pie. It's one of my favorite meals of the year.

This time Melissa used her new food processor to make the cole slaw from scratch. Great stuff. I'm going use the leftover carrots to make carrot salad.

P.S. - The jowl is the cheek meat of the hog.

I'm not bitter that you didn't invite us over. Not at all. How many people who grew up in East Tennessee like fried potatoes, anyway? Or greens? or big, meaty hog jowls? Or black-eyed peas! With cornbread for sopping up the juice! and when you're so stuffed you couldn't eat another bite, you eat two pieces of pumpkin pie anyway!! DAMN YOU LES JONES!! DAMN YOU!

Ya know, we actually talked about having a big New Year's Day shindig. We decided Christmas Day we were probably going to be too wiped out from holiday stuff to pull it off. Good thing, too, since I got drunk as hell New Year's Eve and slept until noon.

But maybe next year.

Really? That sounds like a very disturbing menu for someone with a hangover.

No hangover. Woke up feeling pretty good, actually. I just had to sleep it off.
