Via commenter Jim at Tam's: "[A] Hobo asks a lady for day work so he can eat and have some walking around money. They agree that he will do some yard work and paint the porch. When he's finished, the lady pays him and he says: By the way, that's not a porch, it's a Mercedes."

Hey Les,
I heard a similar rendition but instead of a hobo the person was a blond female. I like the Hobo version better.
My dad was born in 1929 and grew up in the depression, so he probably heard a few hobo jokes in his time.
