February 22, 2007Blogging > A Million Screaming WordPress Users Can't be WrongSista Smiff moved to WordPress and a new URL. The Dry Spot moved to WordPress and his own domain. Countertop moved to WordPress and his own domain. Kathy T. moved to WordPress and a new URL. Nashville is Talking moved to WordPress. Note to self: think seriously about moving to WordPress. Actually, I was anyway. Here's a question. Can I set WordPress to write out the filenames for my posts to match my current filenames? I don't want to lose my Google-fu. Other than that, I'm willing to use whatever software works best as long as the output is the same or better. There are a couple of WordPress plug-ins I'd like to use, and I think the WordPress templates look better. It's time for a site redesign. LATER: Left of the Dial also moved to WordPress and his own domain. LATER STILL: Ditto PDB. Posted by lesjones | TrackBackLes Jones linked with OK, I'm Totally Sold on Wordpress Comments
Hrrrm. Definitely a Lynnster question. I flipped over because after I upgraded to new blogger, my RSS feeds all died. Kaput. Nadda. I like the layout for wordpress better. Not so crazy about the teensie pictures, but they are much easier to upload. Plus posts are automatically saved in wordpress rather than the entire thing disappearing if you hit a wrong key (like my goober fingers sometimes do). Good luck! And thanks for the shout-out! Posted by: Kathy T. at February 22, 2007"Can I set WordPress to write out the filenames for my posts to match my current filenames? " there's a plug in that can use your old MT links. When i first switched, I did it. Over time, search engines started finding the new urls over the archived ones. When that happened, I deleted the old ones. Not sure what it's called but it can be done. I've used both and wordpress is definitely much better. Posted by: SayUncle at February 22, 2007Lynnster knows all. Jon Hickman knows a lot about this as well. "Can I set WordPress to write out the filenames for my posts to match my current filenames? I don't want to lose my Google-fu." I'm not sure what this means in terms of WP. WP doesn't write files like MT does. So your URLs will change, which could hurt you. I'm not sure if there is a general way to redirect current links to new WP pages. You can turn on fancy URLs and get human readable URLs. That helps with Google I believe. WP also generates Google Site Maps for you and that helps with Google as well. And the best WP plugin of all is Subscribe to Comments, which would let me know when you respond to this comment. :) Posted by: Ron at February 22, 2007The Subscribe to Comments plug-in is one of the reasons I want to switch. Jonathan Hickman uses it, and it's pretty awesome. Posted by: Les Jones at February 22, 2007While I'm all for anyone moving to WordPress, I have to say your blog's design is just about my favorite ever. I wish it were mine. Posted by: Frank at February 24, 2007Really? Wow. Thanks. Posted by: Les Jones at February 24, 2007Although I don't use it for my (stagnant) blog, I'm an ExpressionEngine fan. I think really the only thing it doesn't do, and it wouldn't be a drawback for me anyway, is offer one click theme changing. I think it's just way too configurable for that ;) Posted by: Ben at February 25, 2007Post a comment
