Tech > Is Firefox 2.0 Stable?

So the new Firefox 2.0 is out. The new features are tempting -
spelling checker, live bookmarks, and session restore. Is it stable enough to install?

i definitely think so. i've been using 2.0 since it was released on both my home and work computers, and i haven't run into any issues at all. it's a great upgrade.

I've been using it for months now. Works great! It doesn't look much different from the last version but there are some neat features. It's definitely stable on my machine. I usually leave it up for days at a time and use sometimes as many as 10 tabs at once. I'd recommend it.

Yeah, it just replaced Opera for the first time since 2001 on my pc. Plenty stable, and fast too.

The only real complaint I have for Firefox is that it is kind of squirrely when I try to run some forms of streaming video. I never managed to get Adult Swim videos (from the Cartoon Network website) to stream while I was running Firefox.

I can get streaming when I run Internet Explorer, though. So I run Firefox for everything but streaming videos.

I found the Firefox 2.0 browser to be a real help when blogging. The spellcheck feature is great, and I can simply compose my posts without bothering to run a separate spell check utility after composing.

I've used it for quite some time and have only one complaint -- every once in a while it will peg my CPU. I have to kill it and restart. The good news is that the session restore usually brings everything back just the way I left it (unless I have multiple browsers open).

Of course, this happens on a laptop that I put into and take out of suspend as I go from home to the office to home again, rebooting only once a week or so, often having 20 or more tabs open. I guess I'm not your typical user.

I've been using it for a few weeks, and love it. I've not experienced any problems on my laptop...yet...

Sounds like a winner. I've installed it and using it for this post. I like the RSS preview.

I am personally an IE 7 guy, but I had to load Firefox 2 on my laptop because it still has Win 2000. Once you go to tabs you can't go back. I have had no issues with it. The built-it spell check IS nice.

As far a streaming is concerned, try lowering your "Video Acceleration." I had to change mine to "None." You can access this by right-clicking on the video and going to options (it still is a little bit better on IE).

I've been running it since it came out. It finally got me to drop IE. It's crashed on me only a handful of times; but I'm a Windows user so I expect that.
