Food & Drink > Mustard Seed

There used to be a restaurant in Knoxville called The Mustard Seed Cafe. I never really thought anything about the name.

Melissa bought a charm bracelet at an estate sale last year. She showed it to one of her co-workers who looked at one of the charms and said "Do you know what this means." Melissa didn't, and the woman told her "It's a mustard seed, as in faith in a mustard seed." Melissa still didn't understand, so she continued "It's in the Bible."

Sure enough:

Luke 13:18,19 He said, "What is the Kingdom of God like? To what shall I compare it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and put in his own garden. It grew, and became a large tree, and the birds of the sky lodged in its branches."

Luke 17:6 He replied, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you."

And there's a book called Faith in a Mustard Seed that the woman must have been thinking of.

They were popular bracelets in the late 1950s. She might have a very old piece of jewelry.

Someone at the jewelry store said bracelet without all the charms was worth like $60. I don't know jewelry, but it seemed mighty nice for the ten dollars or so she paid for it.

Correction: Melissa tells me it was $70.
