"You shouldn't drink poolwater. There are leaves in it, and the cat was drinking out of it, and other kids pee in it."
That didn't convince her at all. She just kept gulping it down with gusto.
So I said "Katie, birds fly over the pool and they poopie in it. That's poopie water. Icky yucky and spittoie!"
That convinced her.

It's amazing what works with kids, isn't it?
For example, I got my 3.5 yr old daughter to eat all of her broccoli by informing her that it would make her have lots of farts.
Much laughter (and eating of said broccoli) ensued...
You may have just turned her against birds!
