Misc > Father's Day Gifts: Flyfishing Shirts

I discovered flyfishing shirts this year, and I'm in man love with them. And I don't even flyfish.

Some are short-sleeved for warm weather and others are long-sleeved (to block the sun), but if you want to roll up the long sleeves they generally have buttons or other fasteners to hold the sleeves in place. Flyfishing shirts also tend to have handy pockets, as in "handy as a pocket on a shirt." (Or "happy as a pig in a shirt," whichever you prefer.)

They're generally synthetic so they'll dry quickly. I kind of like that, but I'm used to synthetics from hanging out in discotheques every Saturday night decades of backpacking. And being synthetic they're low maintenance iron-wise.

I have two Columbia flyfishing shirts, and another one by World Wide Sportsman from Bass Pro Shops. Columbia is the easiest to find. I bought mine at Mast General Store in downtown Knoxville, but you can find them in lots of departments stores for about $45. The World Wide Sportsman shirts has fewer pockets and no cape vent in the back, but it's also cooler in warm weather and only costs $30. Right now it holds the title of my favorite shirt.
