The landscaper finished the heavy work with the Bobcat yesterday. He dug out new beds, set railroad ties and built retaining walls, hauled in dirt, gravel, and mulch, and reshaped a few spots. He also used an auger attachment on the Bobcat to dig dozens of holes for bushes and trees. (The red clay on the upper part of my property is immune to picks and shovels. No joke.)

We got the Skip Laurel privacy hedge planted, and it's going to look great. We got the Smokies garden at the end of the house mostly planted. We just need to decide on the remaining plants. The vinca is planted on the slope above the house. The slope below the house was too hard, so we just mulched it. I lucked into an incredible Kwanzan Cherry at Mayo's that was marked down from $125 to $40.

Now it's time to pressure wash the dirt off everything, install some new above-ground downspout drains, plant a vegetable garden, and buy more bushes and trees to flll all of those holes. We've found a guy who can shoot mulch up slopes, so we'll probably have him finish the mulching (we really needed three truckloads instead of one).

Things really went pretty darned well. It didn't rain on us at all, and we didn't drill into any gas or water lines, which is pretty good. The rain we're getting right now couldn't have come at a better time for the plants.
