East Tennessee > Drive-by Truckers Play Tonight on Market Square

The Drive-by Truckers are playing a free Sundown in the City concert tonight in Knoxville. We're going and taking the kids. Wish us luck.

UPDATE: It was fun, but got hectic. One lesson I learned quickly is that my wife and I have to avoid getting unnecessarily separated in a crowd like that. Next time I think we'll stay on the grassy area. If the kids get restless and we need to roam we'll go over to Krutch Park where it's less crowded.

In the Philippines, they had McRice.

I'm not sure if you've been to sundown in the past year, but you may want to rethink bringing the youngins. I'm a rowdy 22 year old and have stopped going due to the sheer density of the crowd and lack of bathroom facilities.

Really like that band, but I didn't go...too far for an old man to travel at night! And, if they don't have bathrooms, well, then I would be arrested for watering something!

Will: that's why I asked people to wish us luck. :-) Hopefully between me, my wife, and her mom we can manage things. I expect we'll be hanging way back from the stage.

I may be going with Zan. Haven't made up my mind yet, though -- we both used to be huge fans, but haven't much liked anything post-Decoration Day.

And Isbell quit, which is a huge loss.

And they're on some sort of "jesus, we're so incredibly bored with these songs we've played a million times, hey, why don't we do them acoustic?" type tour, which isn't very encouraging. Zan's been pretty seriously stoked all week about seeing them, too, so I felt bad when I told him today they were probably going to be all soft and sensitive instead of big and loud and mean -- I got a "what cho talkin' bout, willis?" look, then a big sad frown.

And Sundown's such a hassle too, and it's going to be hot, and, etc. etc.

So, I dunno. If we do go, I'd like to hang out with y'all, so give me a call before you head out -- we're going to try and time it so we miss Dixie Dirt, so maybe we could meet up around 8?

Steve: I'll give you a ring.

The acoustic acts I've seen at Sundown didn't sound good. Electric's the only way to fly with a big crowd at Market Square.
