East Tennessee > Couple Buys Kay's Ice Cream in Maryville

Melissa saw this in the Sunday paper and Starke forwarded me the link:

By October, the new owners of the Kay’s Ice Cream building plan to once again be scooping ice cream and selling sweets out of the legendary Maryville eatery.

Ken and Leyanne Harper said they purchased the building at 1400 W. Broadway Ave. for sentimental reasons and didn’t want to see the building destroyed or replaced with another business. This fall they will open Sweet Celebrations — a bakery and ice cream shop in the former Kay’s building. “We had a lot of memories here,” Leyanne said, standing in the building that is currently being renovated. “Our kids did, too. We just had a real attachment to it.”

It won't be Kay's, but it will be something. Humdinger Drive-in, which had a fire in January, bought some of the equipment from Kay's so they could re-open their drive-in.
