We kicked off the Labor Day weekend by driving to the mountains. Up through Sevierville, Pigeon Forge (bypassing most of it via the parkway on the other side of the river), then Gatlinburg, around the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail, and back home through the park and Townsend.

We stopped at the outlet stores in Sevierville. Everyone in the family got some new clothes, and we bought baby shower presents for a friend.

It would be an understatement to say I'm not much of a clotheshound. I did a budget just before I met Melissa and realized that I actually wasn't spending enough money on clothes. My wife now buys me shirts when she finds something she thinks I'll like. The running shoes I was wearing when I went to Sevierville were four years old. I just don't enjoy shopping for clothes, so I put it off as long as possible.

In light of that, my haul today - a pair of Nikes and five business casual shirts from Eddie Bauer - is probably a lifetime record for a day of shopping. Or about an hour and a half including trying things on and checking out - I'm pretty much an in and out clothes shopper. Add a pair of tan pants and blue jeans, and that will probably be my entire clothes expenditure for the rest of the year.

Natalie has a personal record today, too. She's been walking for a while, but since it's been warm we didn't see a need for her to wear shoes in the house, and when we're out she's either on our shoulder or in the stroller. Lately we've been putting shoes on her now and then to accustom her, but she's been taking them off as quickly as possible. Today she set a personal record by keeping a pair of shoes on her feet for an entire day.
