I went to the optometrist the other week. I'm occasionally having trouble seeing small fonts, so I thought it might be time for a new prescription. I was surprised to find out my prescription hadn't changed. My doctor thinks the font problem is a combination of scratched lenses causing some focusing problems and a need for non-glare lenses. This is the longest I've never gone without a new prescription, so I'm hoping that means my eyes are stablizing, which would make me a good candidate for Lasik.

Since my last visit the eye clinic got a new piece of machinery that images the back of your eye, including the retina and macula. As I've mentioned before my mother has macular degeneration, so it seemed like a good idea to keep an eye on it, if you will. The test was $29, and according to the receptionist insurance generally covers it.

In the picture above I believe the bright area in the center is the optic nerve, and the dark area adjacent to it is the macula. According to the optometrist the picture shows that my retina is fully attached, the macula is healthy, and the ratio of artery size to vein size is good.
