Guns > Ruger SR9 Official Announcement

sr9-1.jpg

Following weeks or rumors Ruger has announced the SR9 pistol. The rumors that it would be Glock-like were true. It's a striker-fired design with a glass-filled nylon frame and stainless steel slide. Capacity is 17 rounds of 9 mm. Weight is 26.5 ounces with an empty magazine. One unique feature is the manual safety, which I expect most folks will either love or hate. I'm indifferent, but it looks like it's a location that's hard to reach with your thumb.

LATER: I'm surprised Ruger went with a molded-in grip design. That's very 1995. The trend is towards removable grip panels to fit different hand sizes, as in the Walther and S&W's M&P.

Actually, your grip gripe is only partially justified... the backstrap is reversible without much fuss, with one side being flat and the other arched.

That helps some. The S&W system is more flexible, and it allows you to have one of these. I love me some LaserGrips.

Handled one yesterday.

Grip seems to have a narrow, long reach, but comfortable, nonetheless.

Trigger was horrible. Absolutely the worst I've ever come across.

The grip is pretty much right from the P345, with the addition of the reversible backstrap. I put a section of mountain bike inner tube around the grip on my P345 and it made a big improvement. It's a pretty skinny grip. I'd be curious to see how this one feels, given it's a double-stack mag. I was hoping the new Ruger would be a single stack 9mm more suited for CCW. This one's 1.27" thick.

Ruger makes ok semi-autos, but I'd never carry one. They're just too.... sloppy. I have a P89 (my first gun) that I will keep (for first time shooters b/c it's heavy and has a huge manual safety), but for carry I have to go w/ higher build quality. I carry a Kahr PM9 currently.

Got mine today...didn't know Ruger was doing this gun. Very pleased with 150 rds so far...no ftf or eject....dealer trying to get more spare mags. This is the BEST Ruger s/a pistol yet.

I just compared the Ruger SR9 to a Charles Daly 9mm High Power. The trigger on the Charles Daly was crisper, but the classic High Power had a much thicker grip. The SR9 grip, while longer, actually concealed better under a shirt. Nice front site on the Ruger, but the rear sight notch was too narrow-aren't they all? A custom LW Commander in 9mm would have been nicer, but for the money, I believe the Ruger SR9 is a great choice.

The SR9 has guickly became my favorite gun to carry. Its light in weight and very thin so its super concealable

I own an 89,94,95 and SR9 from Ruger. Had a chance to put the SR9 through its paces this weekend. Had an issue with the slide going all the way forward and misfires but that was due to to much lubrication. After correcting the problem it was able to rapidly fire all 18 rds with no problem. I still prefer my 89 but as for carring it will more than likely be the SR9

Got my SR 9 today and love it. I chose it over the Glock and KP 95. The grip feel is great, the balence is better than my 22/45. Other than the sights being off I have no complaints. Can anyone tell me how much each click on the rear sight raises the impact at 20 yards? Mine is about 6-7 inches low.

I have about 200 rounds through my SR9. I like the feel and design. I have cleaned and lubricated several times and it jams repeatedly while feeding. I called Rugar and the stated that the SR9 has problems with Winchester whitebox 115 gr. I have also tried PMC and had no better luck. If I took this weapon to a knife fight I would have a fair chance of a poor outcome for me.

I shot 100 rounds out of mine. It was great. Lightweight and very well balanced. The safely was hard getting used to, but by the end of the seesion I was able to hit the safety off very quickly. Magazines fed all 17 round in. Had to use that mag tool but the 3rd time filling it was no problem. I like shooting all 18 rounds without a pause. Very good weapon. I can't wait to get my CCW so that I can carry this around. Anyone know of any good holsters inside and outside of the pants?

My SR9 has performed flawlessly. I have run 600 rounds and have not had it jam once. The sights must be adjusted by the owner because I think that a blind person does it at the factory. The grouping is nice and tight, makes me look like a better shooter than I really am. Ruger gets 2 thumbs way up for the SR9.
