Politics > Which Presidential Candidate Matches Your Views?

Find out here. Hat tip to Music City Bloggers.

My results below. The higher the score the closer the match. My #1 match surprised me. My favorite, Fred Thompson, was in the top third. Mccain, who I don't care for, was surprisingly high. One thing this poll doesn't measure is trust. I don't much trust Mccain or Giuliani, but I have a fair bit of confidence in Thompson based on his letters and videos.

Ron Paul 25
John Gilmore 24
Tom Tancredo 23
John Mccain 22
Sam Brownback 22
Rudy Giuliani 21
Duncan Hunter 19
Fred Thompson 19
Mitt Romney 18
Mike Huckabee 13
Dennis Kucinich 11
Mike Gravel 11
Joe Biden 11
Chris Dodd 11
Bill Richardson 8
Barack Obama 8
Hillary Clinton 8
John Edwards 8

My main agreement with candidates at the bottom of the list was legal abortion and opposing a gay marriage amendment. I generally agreed with candidates at the top of the list about Iraq and opposition to nationalized healthcare.

That's the quick snapshot. The actual results show where you agree and disagree with each candidate.

On the death penalty, for instance, I chose oppose, because in general I don't trust our legal system to that degree. I'd support it for particularly heinous crimes and with higher standards of evidence for the sentencing phase, but I doubt my ideal is going to happen, so I'm forced to be against it, but not militantly so. At any rate the death penalty is mostly a state matter so I'm not very concerned about a presidential candidate's position on the issue.

Likewise, I'm not terribly interested in a candidate's position on the gay marriage amendment. The reason's simple - we haven't had a new amendment to the Constitution in many decades and I don't think we're going to have one on gay marriage. It's a sideshow issue that Bush introduced as a distraction.

I noticed there was no question about the right to keep and bear arms. That's an important issue for some of us.

I found the issues to generally not be very important to me.

And the test if full of it because there is no way in Hell I'd vote Giuliani.
