A&E > Hello Gordon, Hello Sumner

SayUncle had a funny post the other day, changing the lyrics to "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh" to comment on a news story. I've had the lyrics on my mind the last few days.

Hello muddah, hello faddah
Here I am at Camp Granada
Camp is very entertaining
And they say we'll have some fun if it stops raining.

I went hiking with Joe Spivy
He developed poison ivy
You remember Leonard Skinner
He got ptomaine poisoning last night after dinner.

This morning the "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh" melody was swirling around in my head and I realized you can sing The Police's "Wrapped Around Your Finger" to the same tune.

You consider me the young apprentice
Caught between the scylla and charybidis
Hypnotized by you if I should linger
Staring at the ring around your finger

I have only come here seeking knowledge
Things they wouldn't teach me of in college
I can see the destiny you sold
Turned into a shining band of gold

P.S. - A dozen years ago at a Knoxville Symphony Orchestra pops concert the conductor introduced Dance of the Hours as the song used as the music for "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh." The tune came first, the song came later.
