Home Life > Love in the Time of Influenza

My wife's got the flu now. She started coughing Sunday, felt bad yesterday and worse in the evening. About 5:00 this morning she got the cold chills. I put a heating pad under her and that stopped the chills.

This afternoon when she's up to it I'll take her to the doctor. When I was at that point Saturday night I would have needed an ambulance to make it to the doctor.

Luckily the kids were already at their grandmother's to keep them from catching the flu from me, so they're OK.

With all due respect, Les, if you had influenza at the weekend, you would have been incapacitated and in bed for the next ten days. Many people call their symptoms flu, which it isn't. If and when you get the flu, you'll know the real thing when it comes.

If you look a couple posts down, you'll see he "passed" the flu test.

I realize that lots of people say they have the flu when it's bad cold or upper respiratory infection. I've had lots of those since my kids started pre-school.

This was different. I had cold chills that had me shaking violently. I couldn't even drive myself to the doctor. And like Scott said, I had a flu swab that came back positive, so there's no doubt about it.

We just got back from taking my wife to the doctor. Flu diagnosis for her, with a doctor's not for work to stay home for a week or as needed. This is serious stuff.

Just curious, did you guys get flu shots?
I got the "pseudo-flu" a couple years ago and I had a shot. Just like the flu, but I tested negative for the strains they testing/vaccinated for.

We didn't get the shot, but I ran into a friend in the waiting room who had gotten a flu shot this year and she got the flu anyway. The doctor asked if I had gotten the vaccine, then told me it didn't work well this year.
