Misc > Crispy Fried DeLorean

Saw this crashed and burned DeLorean tonight at a lot on Chapman Highway.

The interior is toast and rust, but the stainless exterior still looks mighty fine. Heck, where the stainless got hot it developed a nicely-colored patina (which is a word more associated with knives than with car bodies).

(I shoulda used fill flash to light up the interior. I even had an external flash with me in the car. The D40 works really super well with fill flash.)

UPDATE: DeLorean Motors is selling new-ish hand-assembled cars. One thing I noticed in browsing their used DeLoreans is that they all seem to have low miles despite pushing into their third decade. Wonder why?

They're still building a 30-year old car?? Sheesh.

The reason for the low miles on rebuilt cars is that the DeLorean dealer network collapsed after only two years of production (probably more like 18 months), and since the car was a strange amalgam of parts assembled in Ireland from parts suppliers who couldn't bother to keep up with each other's changes, and the engine rather prone to breakage (for some info, look up something called the PRV V-6 engine), the dealers were a necessity to keep the cars on the road.

It was a neat looking car for the times, a milestone in design in many respects, but it was never a good performer and it was just like most other exotics (about $30K at the time, a huge sum), it required constant attention to keep it roadworthy.
