News > Russia Invades Georgia with Planes, Tanks, Troops

The New York Times - Georgia and Russia Nearing All-Out War

Scary stuff. Russia has the bomb, Russia has control over lots of oil and gas resources, and worst of all Russia has the power-mad Vladimir Putin who is not under the control of the Russian people.

Some portion of Georgia's army is deployed with us in the Middle East. Sure they could go back home, but how? Russia captured the major airport very early on. Since nobody wants to enter a land war in Eurasia, Russia behaves as a bully with impunity.

I just read that the U.S. is airlifting elements of Georgian troops back to their home country.

Russia is the largest country on Earth, with a huge army and lots of equipment. The nation of Georgia is about the size of South Carolina. They have no hope of repelling a Russian invasion on their own.

With America tied up in the Mideast, and zero political will in Europe, Georgia turns to China for help. Strange bedfellows indeed.
