February 04, 2004Did You Grow up in the '70s?SayUncle bought a collection of Schoolhouse Rock cartoons, and now all of us Gen Xers are over there reminiscing. Come join the fun. Bonus points if you remember the Land of the Lost theme song.
Marshall, Will and Holly More bonus points if you can name all of the Herculoids, or the names of all of the characters on Thundaar the Barbarian and at least two of the show's bad guys. Or name five lame cartoon sidekicks designed to appeal to little bitty kids. For instance, Scrappy-Doo and Godzuki. LATER: Drake got the Thundaar points. As far as the five sidekicks, there's Godzuki for Godzilla, Scrappy Doo for Scooby Doo, Batmite for Batman, Gleek for the Super Friends, Robby the Robot on the Fantastic Four, and the bouncy booh things on the Herculoids.

April 26, 2005Land of the Lost Movie ComingLand of the Lost movie starring Will Farrell. Geez, I'll go see it, but I wonder how many other people will? Via jwz. UPDATE: Jonah Goldberg notes that in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back Will Farrell plays Federal Wildlife Marshall Willenholly. As in "Marshall, Will and Holly / On a routine expedition / Met the greatest earthquake ever known / High on the rapids / It struck their tiny raft / And plunged them down a thousand feet below / To the La-a-and of the Lo-o-ost" UPDATE CONT'D: According to this story, Adam McKay, who directed and co-wrote Anchorman, will direct the movie. That's a good sign. I liked Anchorman.

December 26, 2006Hostess Comic Book AdsArchive of all Hostess comic book ads. There were tons of those ads when I was reading comic books as a kid, and they're all about as corny as this one:
I guess discovering what crime The Human Computer actually committed is left as an exercise for the reader. Via Random Panels, who is worth checking out if you like comic books. His Kirbycize is awesome. And if you like those ads, see Jim Treacher's re-imagining of vintage comic book ads. Not safe for work, and that third one with the Hulk is a bit much. Oh vey. Bonus! Archie comics has been re-designed for a modern, realistic look. I agree with whoever said this sounds like a New Coke experiment to be followed by Classic Archie. Via Treacher. |
